18 months...

Maya turned 18 months yesterday!!  She is such a big girl and has grown and learned so much in the past few months.

At her appointment today, she was in the 50th percentile for both weight and height...a bit of a change from the usual 50th weight 80th height we had been seeing until now.

Her vocabulary is constantly expanding and she has well over 50+ words.  It seems like she tries to repeat something new everyday and has started putting 2-3 words together!  If she's not using real words she is often babbling and having conversations with herself or her toys.

She knows many of her body parts including her eyes, ears, nose, mouth, tongue, head, hair, arm, toes and pee pee, yes pee-pee...that's the best I could come up with in the moment.  She also knows many animals and their appropriate noise and will often call them by the noise instead of the name.

She's an ok eater...a great snacker (my fault, I know)!  She is great with a spoon and fork and can use both properly.  I can't remember the last time I fed her myself...it's been months!

She's interested brushing her teeth and asks for "elmo, teeth!" every morning (referring to her elmo toothpaste/brush).  She much more excited to put the brush under the running water and suck the water off than actually let me brush her teeth, but it's better than nothing!

She's also showing an interest in the potty.  She likes to come with me when I go and will pull toilet paper off the role and throw it in the bowl.  She'll also say "bye bye" to whatever gets flushed.  We have her potty in our bathroom and sometimes she'll sit on it (with her pants on), but never more than a second or two.

She's such a love and will give hugs and kisses to all of her toys, especially Baby, Bear and Choo-Choo (her thomas the train toy).  She also like to give them drinks and food and is so proud when I praise her on her sharing.  She loves to give us snuggles, hugs and kisses too and all kisses are now given with a very loud "MUAH!"  She's too cute!

On the other hand, she is realizing she doesn't like to share.  She is now telling other kids "NO" when they play with something she likes or is also playing with.  It's very difficult to deal with even though I know it's normal.  We're trying our best to diffuse each situation.  Unfortunately, she also gets frustrated and has started to hit and pinch at times.  We are trying to come up with the best game plan to deal with her behavior!  Again, I know it's normal, but it's so hard to see your sweet fun loving little girl act in those ways!

She likes to help with certain tasks...or at least tries to!  From switching laundry (pushing the wet clothes into the dryer as I put them on the door) to emptying the dishwasher (handing me the silverware), she loves to give me a hand!  Let's hope that continues!!

She loves the outdoors and constantly asks to go "outsides".  Our "yard" is small and consists of concrete and a garden area, but she happily plays with her water table, car and bubbles.  She enjoys the park and though she still loves the swing, she's starting to move on to other options including the slide!

She LOVES to dance and will rock out whenever she hears a beat.  She also like spinning and I see dance lessons in her future.

I've seen early signs of dress up!  She loves to put on our shoes, my purse, hats, sunglasses and necklaces (which she calls "pretty")...and is even interested in my make-up!  I obviously don't let her put any on, but she does pretend with my brushes and mimics my "swirl/tap" movements I learned from bare essentials ;)

I love my little girl so much and I'm so very proud of her.  I know she'll make a great big sister (once we get past the initial "what is that and why are you holding it and not me?!?!" phase which I'm sure we'll encounter).  She is sweet and funny and brings us so much joy!
